PROGRESSIVE presents work around smart housing at the CEN Sector Forum on Smart and Sustainable Cities and Communities

Posted in News

Smart homes that really are age-friendly and how these homes can be supported by standards is one of the core fields investigated by the PROGRESSIVE project. In December ‘17, AGE Platform Europe, partner in the PROGRESSIVE project, was invited to present the PROGRESSIVE work around smart housing at the working meeting of the Sector Forum on Smart and Sustainable Cities and Communities (SF-SSCC).
The meeting took place in the European Committee for Standardization premises in Brussels, and Estelle Huchet of AGE Platform Europe presented the project ambitions in order to identify synergies with the SF-SSCC. The presentation triggered discussion around topics such as: Is “smart” housing necessarily age-friendly? How do the two concepts overlap or contradict each other? How to prevent and overcome these potential oppositions?
It provided the audience with observations and preliminary findings of the project regarding the heritage from smart buildings (mainly around energy efficiency and lighting) and how the current developments around accessibility and assistive technologies influence the home environment.
